VOTE!

Tuesday, August 8 is your chance to be heard. Primaries are often low-tournout affairs and your vote can possibly sway the election in one candidate's favor. Also in our one-party state, also known as West Michigan, voting in the Republican primary is likely your only chance to pick your next county and state officials.

Election Magic is a great source of voting results as they come in if you don't feel like listening to the talking heads on your local news while waiting to see who won or lost.

Too bad Ionia isn't on the Election Magic bandwagon. You'll have to watch TV for full state rep results.

Timmy, that wouldn't be a bad strategy- if only it actually made sense. I don't see any overlap in votes between Bailey and Reynolds- except for a tiny number who might simply be voting based on "stopping Calley." But there's such little difference between Calley and Bailey, the only reason to stop Calley would be to elect a "hometown boy" from Barry County instead of Ionia County. I'm just not convinced that's a good reason since there's nothing to show Newell did anything more for Ionia than he did Barry (which was squat).

If it's a choice between Bailey and Calley, then as someone who has lived in Barry County for many years I have to say I just might prefer the devil I don't know. Also, I'm not sure Bailey's got a decent shot- he's got a campaign made up of his own money with little evidence of any wide support. In fact, most of Bailey's support comes from the misguided notion only he can beat Calley. A laughable notion considering he couldn't even beat Newell in a two man race so how's he going to do it in an seven person field? By spending even more of his own money? I don't see it happening.

In fact, I see Bailey as actually sucking more votes away from Calley because their stance on issues is so similar. While Bailey might be able to "Stop Calley" it might be by acting as a ceiling on his potential votes and helping a dark horse like Reynolds or Vlietstra slide into a win. The only one in the 87th with a shot is the Barry County person who puts up the best fight in Ionia. Even then, if they can't make it close in Ionia our next State Rep. is probably Brian Calley. We'll find out tomorrow night... or Wednesday morning.

Timmy, I told you the puppies (Lassie is so prolific) would continue to invade your thoughts.

Brian Calley represents nothing that is important to me, but, he is at least informed.

I have already voted for Brian Reynolds.

Those of us who have watched the sleazebag Bailey in action over the years might even do better by electing Lassie.
