Contempt

|kənˈtem(p)t|
noun
the feeling that a person or a thing is beneath consideration, worthless, or deserving scorn : he showed his contempt for his job by doing it very badly.
• disregard for something that should be taken into account : this action displays an arrogant contempt for the wishes of the majority.

John McCain holds that Barrack Obama is deserving scorn. His attack ads this week are full of anger. Pushing the idea that Senator Obama is arrogant is the new "weapons of mass destruction" argument of the Republican party, as they muddle their way through a lackluster campaign.

Lather, rinse, and repeat as needed.

Much like during the build up to the Iraqi war, bad intelligence is dissembled along with fear rhetoric, in order to build an illegitimate argument. All the while, so called legitimate news outlets (in chorus) repeat these assertions, showing once again that news agencies are less interested in presenting facts, than joining in with the kind of "group think" that led us into war with a nation that was a less than adequate threat.

All of this is should be considered politics, as normal. Not merely reserved for those on the top of a political ticket, this strategy of hand slights has oozed itself downward into seemingly mundane ballot races. Even those that many would consider immune from gotcha politics.
Setup's, and name calling are used in such a way as to bait undecided voters into their unsavory arguments. If straight forward issues are easy enough to wade through for the voters, mirror flashes, and puffs of smoke are employed with seeming ease in order to remedy already formed decisions on clear cut choices.
Suddenly the subject of law enforcement is quickly changed from questions of previous performance, and crime rates, to highly contentious subjects involving gun rights. Forced to the forefront, in a confrontational manner, for political gain, not because there was an overwhelming need for people to strap on a deadly weapon for self defense, but because the non-issue issue could be employed as a means of showing contempt for the opposing candidate.

Blowback

The missing part in all of this is the reaction by the citizens that are being prodded, and harassed, through the claims, and actions of the attacking candidates. While it has been proven these tactics work in the short term, without a continuous stream of valid attacks they tend to fizzle out.
Tomorrow we may well know if the short quick actions taken by Sheriff Dar's camp were effective. So late in the game it may have had it's intended effect.
Though, I doubt it.
There has been enough time for the citizens in this county to see how their quiet, if not murder free, environment has been made fun of for political gain. Seemingly parallel in action, the attacks on Senator Obama using a suddenly vibrant electorate in order to paint him as a "rock star" may miss the mark, and rile the anger of said electorate.

As well it should

For some time now, here on this blog, and others, the mocking of an apathetic electorate has been great sport. On the streets of the nation, excuses for not taking up ones civil duty are myriad.
"Why should I care?, They are all crooks!"
"I am voting for the "lesser of two evils"
are but a couple of phrases used, in the call to non-action. I hear them more, and more as this election grows tired.
Tired, not because people have a choice that has a modicum of difference in platforms. To the contrary platforms have never been so different in intent. Tired because voters are being used as pawns in games of gotcha politics, and Voters themselves are being held in contempt by politicians.

And this gets right back to the cynicism I referred to recently. Your contention is that the Bush Administration deliberately "lied us" into an unnecessary war. Your count of how it all came about is such a ludicrous re-write of history it cannot be taken seriously. Plagiarizing MoveOn.org is unflattering for you.

Meanwhile, I would agree with your assessment that the stunt involving gun rights & CCW laws was just that - a cheap political stunt. But I choose to believe the voters who will show up at the polls tomorrow are smart enough to see it for what it was.

As we await the results of tomorrow's primary, share with us your guess on the outcome of the county-wide races at http://barryctypolitics.blogspot.com/

Thanks!

My post says no such thing.
I don't remember discussing any of this with you. As a matter of fact I don't think I have ever met you before.

Welcome!

From the insane rhetoric you have just given us, I am sure you fit right in...primo!

Thanks for the appreciation of my insane rhetorical style.

This should be fun!

Frankly, I'm not sure what's worse- lying the country into a war or blindly stumbling into a trap that drains the country's coffers while further destabilizing the Middle East?

Anyone who cares to look for the information instead of waiting for Fox News or El Rushbo to deliver it will sadly come to the conclusion that the administration "cooked the books" Enron-style to get their war. A "ludicrous re-write of history" would fail to mention that the Project for a New American Century and others were set on getting their war with Iraq no matter what and 9/11 was simply a convenient excuse to do so while putting Democrats on the defensive and making them look "weak." Meanwhile, we've spent billions in TAXES and other funds BORROWED FROM THE "CHI COMMS" yet "rock ribbed conservatives" seem to suddenly turn a blind eye and demand more off shore oil rigs (while ignoring the leases going unused by petro checmical companies raking in record, obscene profits) to change the subject (remember when the Iraq War would pay for itself and bring down the price of oil?).

Not all of us believed the lies we got from Powell at the UN. Some of went looking for the truth and found the aluminum tubes were what everyone outside the administration said they were for. It's not our fault that people such as yourself are the engaging in revisionism by pretending no one stood up to voice dissent- we just got drowned out in the cheerleading and drumming leading us on the march to war. Anyone who dared to criticize the rush to invade Iraq got painted as a freedom-hater or terrorist-sympathizer the same way you rushed to peg Agnosticrat as a "Move On" liberal for speaking the truth. You don't need to be a leftist to think the war was a strategic blunder based on phony propaganda- in fact, it's what most Americans believe.

And we're supposed to read your blog where we get more of the same? We already have one RightCuz, can you tell me why we need another?

But back to the subject at hand, which is really much larger than the current election campaigns, it speaks to the American education system and whether or not we can engage in a civil and honest debate without resorting to name calling and debating over semantics.

Speaking of the Presidential campaign, I find it funny that McCain, the darling of the Washington Press Corps (circa 2000) is now upset his paramour seems to have found a new love. Well, given the lack of coverage of McCain numerous gaffes, senior moments, and outright flip flops and panders I"m not sure he should be worried. But it does make a good talking point!

Yeah. I know, Saddam was actually a great guy who we should've just left alone. Hell, maybe if we had a president who would sit down with tyrants, this could've all been worked out peacefully.

No. Saddam didn't use WMD to slaughter Iranians or even his own people. I'm sure that was made up too. And I guess Clinton bombing Iraq for possession of WMD was just a rouse to distract attention from his intern problem too.

You're right. We should've just left this tyrant be. But then again, after the mushroom cloud formed over NY, Chicago, and/or LA, you would've blamed Bush for not going after Saddam in the first place.

Funny how Libs are always right even when they're dead wrong.

And the GOP doesn't need to do anything to make Dems look "weak." You are weak.

Only someone with a militaristic agenda would consider the U.N. sanctions in place against Saddam as "leaving a tyrant be". Sanctions were working.
R Primo's assertion that liberals are weak, for not wanting to bog the nation down in a perpetual war (as prescribed by the Project for a New American Century, and eventually this administration), should sound warning bells to those considering a vote for McCain. McCain's choice to sing "Bomb Iran" while condemning Obama for appeasement for wanting to use diplomacy within the middle east was a doddering blunder. Even today inroads are being made in North Korea, and Iran because of what Barryboy, and McCain would call "weak appeasement".
If pointing this out brings on more name calling like elitist, or popular, so be it. I'll carry that cross!

mean while back in barry co. we are faced with the same issues, we have very good, no great people who could and would run for office except for the uncalled for attacks they will have to endure if they choose to run.

So, you end up with the likes of "barney & big boy" being elected to offices neither one should have.

the local rag writes in the past of "annointments", the real truth is that they are the ones who chooses who runs, they do this thru a series of opinions they write attacking anyone they do not like, thus you have what you have in office.

The chair of the co. comm. has admitted that he will not do anything to get the owner of the local rag mad at him as he is afraid of what he will write.

This very comm. has endorsed "big boy" for pros. This very comm. has told us in a comm. meeting that no judge has ruled yet on the issue of immunity for "big boy" yet he sits with the judges findings on his desk and ignores it.

So, you end up with at best the bottom of the barrel in office.

Today, you can make a change, there are good people with the skills to operate within these offices, make sure you vote for them.

It is time that the taxpayers in Barry Co. have good quality people spending our money, and not those with personal agendas to attempt to inflate themselves.

Yesterday, I wanted to visit the new blog, but got stuck on another project that consumed a lot of my time.

After the above crap, I will face a real struggle to subject myself to what I owe the second amendment, another session of Rushing to the toilet to puke over the distraction from important issues.

Who still thinks that a "debate" can seriously be shifted by childish name-calling, other than TS?

grillo,

respect is earned these three have not earned mine. In fact I have a feeling they have lost much of any they had to begin with.

But for sure they have never earned mine. So I am sorry if you do not like the tags they have been given, really not sure what that would have to do with having a debate on the issues.

You may not have what happened at 911 as an issue, I do.

"Two out of three ain't bad".

The good news is that we get to keep our Chief of City Police.

TS,
You are correct. 911 is no longer an issue for me. It is an old and boring joke. Eventually the wheels of justice will grind away and come to a conclusion. I can assure you of a few things that will NOT happen.

Charlie will not be re-hired as Director of the 911-Central Dispatch.

Ron Neil will not be elected Chairman of the 911 Board.

Charlie will NOT be formally charged with "embezzlement".

Don Nevins, Dar Leaf, and Tom Evans will continue in their current positions for another term.

Very few people will read this blog, and even fewer will post comments.

I will also offer a few things that MAY not happen:

Awarding 911 with a bottomless pit of cash will probably not happen, again.

Don Nevins will probably not cash any checks that he doesn't completely understand.

Judge Fisher will not be seen running a cash register tape in the new County Clerk's Office.

The new County Board will probably not pay any of the legal fees incurred for defending the 911 fiasco participants other than those incurred while (in a judge's opinion) acting in an official capacity.

The possibility for anything happening of a positive and constructive nature in Barry County as a result of anything discussed on this blog as long as the only issue of importance is the 911 fiasco, resembles nanoscience.

TS will continue this rant to infinity, until it is no longer an issue for anybody except TS.

In addition, TS, "back to Barry County" is not what this thread is about, so try to pay attention.

All,
Forgive my constant attempts to broaden the focus to the entire world, especially in light of the new visitor who supports our "foreign policy".

Skimming the Latin American headlines this morning I couldn't help notice the attention given to the recent execution of a Mexican citizen in Texas. McCane supporters (Rite to Life, etc.)probably would say "Hail, we'uns shud kale all them there greasers"
I wonder how the McCane supporters would react if Mexico executed one of our johnnie-reb whack-jobs for "protecting" himself from the threat of a brown brother?
We have 10s of thousands of nukes in storage (along with numerous other WMDs) Don't we have an obligation to speak secretly and beat the crap out of them with a big stick?(Marilyn Monroe Doctrine)

We could name the "action" "The War Against Trespassers". With a little bit of supervision, the media could be set up in advance in bunkers to televise a repeat performance of "The Saturday Nite Shock-N-Awe Live" reality show in downtown Mexico City. How about "Cactus Storm" for the first performance, and "Endless Dependency" for the sequels?

"Aah'm a whack-job, and Aah approved this here messige"

"bad intelligence is dissembled along with fear rhetoric, in order to build an illegitimate argument."

I would have just said "GWBII and his cronies lied through their teeth" and hundreds of thousands of peoples lives have been lost as a result.

I probably, like most other people, would have failed to mention the 30,000 family men/women who have returned as maimed amputees and the hundreds of thousands of men/women who have returned from the oil war with mental issues. Your "ludicrous re-write of history" overlooked that part.
