Anonymous comments are done

I have disabled anonymous comments on the blog. It's gotten out of hand. Perhaps in time I can change it back but for now people have to have a Blogger account and log in to post on the site. This should stop some of the trolls. And, just in case you were wondering, it's not because people are attacking me for getting a story wrong. I can take that- unlike some people I don't cry foul when someone goes after me. What I cannot allow is for people who are not elected officials or candidates for office to be publicly slimed here for personal conduct. Also, I will not let this site be used for anonymous campaign attacks on opponents. I issued a warning here a while ago and the attacks did not diminish, in fact they seemed to increase. If this doesn't work, I may have to restrict comments further. If you wish to smear your opponents, I suggest you use direct mail or push polling. Contact me at MichPolWatcher (at) Yahoo dot com for more ideas or to secure my services ; )

As always, thanks for reading and commenting.

Wade, it wasn't that interesting. Mostly it was the nasty back and forth on the Prosecutor's race- especially people delving into the private lives of an unfortunate couple of people that already had me on edge. Then, a nasty troll who has now foiled my attempts at improving the civility by calling himself "Mark Trompweiler" (see, Agitator- it's pretty easy to get around the no-anonymous rule) decided to go after a couple of people who I know to be good and decent people in a very unfair manner on a personal level. I won't let the site be used for personal attacks that have no greater purpose than to slander or slime citizens for personal conduct outside the bounds of "politics." I have deleted Trompweiler's unfair comments (I left one in because it doesn't manage to cross the line and is so nonsensical that it shows what a complete idiot the guy is).

This is a warning to everyone: I am THIS close to either restricting comments to only those I approve of before they appear (which I'm not thrilled about doing since it's a tedious process that involves me opening every single comment as a seperate email and then deciding to approve or disapprove and then waiting for the comment to upload, etc.). Most likely if any more out of bounds comments by Tromweiler or any with similar personal attacks on people who aren't public officials or candidates appear, I will completely disable comments so NO ONE can comment. I don't wish to do this but I'm completely willing to if the children in the room insist on spoiling everyone's fun. I won't be a babysitter for childish elements who have nothing better to do than throw mud at people they don't like and using this site to do so.

This site was created for political discussion and I hope it can stay that way. Unfortunately as always the people who will listen to this aren't the ones who are the real problem. Some people WANT to ruin it for everyone else because they know this site is having an effect on local politics and they wish to protect the status quo of ininformed voters and incompetant office-holders.

Thanks for the complete explanation Pol!
Now we can get down to brass tacks!
Wade, tell me where I can get one of those stylish lawn signs in Hastings. I haven't committed yet, but you are in the running! If you want, you could grease the wheels a little bit by slipping me a finski!($5).
And another thing while I am at it ...How many houses do you own? I don't think I can vote for someone with less than two! Maybe a farm, and an apartment, but never just a single dwelling! To vote for someone with less than two plats of land, would be an obvious abomination to Barry County politics.

They don't understand there are alot of Bob's out there now. We are fed up. I actually sit on the couch with a cold beer and give my wife the latest scoop. She writes and types so much better than I do. I'm actually 3 1/2

Funny thing to say coming from a guy called Ag Nost O'Crat. Sounds vaguely Irish. Hmmm... Actually, every time I think I figured out who you are you say something that makes me doubt my suspicion. You could always call me Ishmael ; )

Thanks Wade, but first please read my open letter to you on my blog. It is too long for comments, and besides I never get guests!
