Campaign cruise control

Well, we had our chance to get a look at the contenders for the November general election in the 87th district State Rep. race and were reminded why conventional wisdom says Brian Calley won this race in August. Last night's forum at Thomas Jefferson Hall in Hastings showed no reason for anything to think Brian Calley won't be sworn in to a Gary Newell's vacant seat in January barring a meltdown by Brian Calley which would likely have to include multiple felony charges. Calley's decisive win over a crowded Republican primary field was impressive enough that even the Barry County Republicans who charged certain candidates with "crowding the field" have had to realize that even in a one-on-one match that Calley likely still would have won- which means there is not a serious sense of bad blood- and a unified Republican Party means another commanding win in November for the banking industry's Golden Boy.

Democratic Party nominee Doug Kalnbach showed a sense of humor and got in some good zingers but it won't be enough to even bring him above 40% most likely. Kalnbach come across as a likeable guy but also a typical union candidate- presenting a gut level appeal to the working class who has long ago tuned out the Democratic Party's message of economic populism in favor of the Republicans' message of corporate fascism and theocracy sold through fear mongering and spoon-fed easy answers to complex moral and social issues. If Kalnbach was serious about this race, he'd also be hitting the streets harder than he is- there's not many votes to be won at small town drinking holes or biker rallies. I'm sure the calculation is that the anti-helmet biker crowd shows up and swings this race for Kalnbach, but Calley's pro-gun and pro-life stances are all it takes to win here. It's time for the Democrats to hit harder and play smarter if they want to win. Dave Brinkert's campaign against Gary Newell showed that even a pro-gun, pro-life Democrat doesn't have a chance- it's time for some long-term thinking and to lay the groundwork to take these seats when the political landscape has shifted more in favor for the Democratic Party- perhaps when they get redistricted in 2010.

If the Democratic Party wants to win seats in West Michigan they need to begin a long-term campaign in the form of a 5, 10 and 15 year plan that works on voter registration and education, candidate recruitment and grooming and an attempt to provide a funding structure besides relying on the remaining union members and a few $50 from friends and family to fund their candidates.

The only way I could see Brian Calley losing this race was if the far right voters, feeling alienated by a national Republican Party that has spent money like drunken sailors and failed to do anything of substance on abortion or homosexual marriage despite having a solid majority in Congress as well as control of the Executive branch and having a majority of Republican-nominated justices on the Supreme Court, decided to abandon the GOP and cast protest votes for fringe party candidates but that won't happen here. Constitution Party and US Taxpayers Party candidate Walt Herwarth failed to appear as a credible alternative to Brian Calley, sometimes losing his train of thought and not finishing his answers. It wasn't a good performance and it was a good sign that there won't be much to worry about from Calley's right flank which was the only place there could be a serious challenge.

The status quo will reign and re-elect Gary Newell (well, his protogé anyway) to another term in Lansing. And in a couple more years when you hear people grousing about Lansing and politicians, ask them how they voted in November, 2006. I bet you'll know the answer...

Loved Walt's imitation of Mark Doster, though Doster was funnier and more entertaining. Question is will Walt surpass Doster's primary total?

BTW-- What happened to Ag3's blog?

The Detroit Free Press reported the other day the results of a recent census which had Michigan residents losing the most income compared to any other state. The county/ community breakdown was rather incredible since even the most prosperous communities in Michigan had major gains in the number living below the poverty level and an overall reduction in median income. The prognosis? Not good. Upwards of 10 more years of a continued free fall predicted.

Sunday and no Ag3 Blog? What is this world coming to?

Think the 911 brown shirts got em?

LOL The political corruption in barry county has worn me, I have better and more noble issues to concern me. There are several 911 separate factions out there, all with similiar and righteous goals, I know they will prevail! I feel "RIGHT" will conquer "wrong." It's just a matter of time! To neil, nystrom, sarver, forbes, the two browns, boysen, your time is limited! Enjoy if you must? I hope you wallow in the PUBLIC distaste at the mention of your names!

The latest election has revealed corruption at its highest/lowest level. The Secretary of State, the Attorney General, and even the local investigatory agencies have failed to act to send a message to local governments that perjury and other forms of criminal behavior will not be tolerated. A skilled investigator could spend 1-4 days to uncover these election crimes, to send a message State-wide, that this behavior will not be tolerated. Without an agency head with guts, to put it mildly, these chats are useless!

One last comment, I regret to have forgotten: You have sent threats and derogatory comments, forwarded by others you thought were me. My name and address is in the phone book. I await your arrival!

Let me preach a second, lol.

Ag3, I know what it is like to stand alone against people and things that are wrong (morally, ethically, and even criminally) and I agree, it is no picnic. I understand you are tired. We all are. But to pack up and leave is no way to beat this. Take a deep breath and push on.

I too have recieved threats. My children have been threatened. My Parents have been threatened. The only reason you are being threatened is that you are very very close to ending either some illegal activities or somebody's free ride (that depends on those illegal activities). You must push on.

One of the few good things I learned in the Army was to stare straight ahead, into the fray, and keep pushing, even when things look hopeless. The adversaries you are pushing against will eventually blink and you will be there.

I can tell you, by just being right, you will come out on top of this. You are not alone. Stay in the fight. You WILL make a difference. KEEP PUSHING.

Thanks for letting me preach, lol.

hang in there Ag3. It seems a lot of us have been threatened one time or another for calling out corruption or helping one candidate over another. Touching the nerve means you are close to the truth.

Boggsone said...

Thanks, really! The fight goes on, trust me. It was just this arena I was shutting down. I will still read and add my one cent here and there, right or wrong!

I'm in a 50-50 situation where the other 50% may take up more of my time, while definitely not ignoring the 911 issues. With the indifference over corruption it just may be necessary to do your own investigative work!

I believe enough people have joined the 911 oppositional forces that the job will be done. Not sure just how much reach these blogs are getting, out to the "average" person? It has gotten to the nerve of the so called "powers to be," as you mentioned. That makes it all worth the effort!

Oh, my voice will still ring out and the threats and letters will continue. Shows what cowards they are and what low lifes. Hence, my chat saying "here I am." Not afraid of them one iota. But, they are the ones without the guts. They hide under their mothers or wife's skirt, or in a back booth at Big Boy, writing these garbage diatribes which people just laugh at and ignore. There time is coming and I will be a member of the flock to wave bah-bye.

Devos has Alticore do his advertising for him!
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060902/NEWS06/609020366/1001/NEWS
Of course on the bright side they will keep the China/outsoursing issue on the minds of Michigan voters.
Thank you Amway!
New headline: Devos campaign hurts Michigan business.

I wonder when the "AmWay Veterans For Truth" will start running ads...

The reporting on the DemHall Forum was sadly correct. The Dems seem to have nothing other than Granholm to offer, beyond the County level.
Too many years of the American Idle have performed a cranial liposuction on the Democrats. There is nothing left but a few lonely dogs yapping in the darkness. Our hearts are not deeply disturbed by the subjects of gay insurance benefits, declining union memberships, government interference in morality issues, Mexicans trying to find work or farmland preservation.
The black hole of Democrat leadership is still not powerful enough to suck people off their couches and up to the kitchen table to sign an absentee ballot. It would be unreasonable for us to expect any current Dem to motivate a significant number of other Dems to actually drive to a polling place.
How do you think we got to Iraq in the first place?

I had hoped that Calley would be soundly trounced by a citizen backlash against the current Republican war criminals, but it appears that Brian will be the brightest star in our dimming firmament.
Study Leviticus for the "whole truth", or at least as much as you will be allowed to have.

Ag3,
You were largely responsible for my taking the time to set up el-grillo.blogspot.
I'm still convinced that eventually somebody will read at least one of the postings and learn more about County government.
I hope you will focus on steps we can take to remedy whatever fault you are concentrating on. Perhaps fault-finding is tiresome to all of us.

FYI-- Post-primary statements are appearing on-line. Reynolds is the first to have his up.

El: My apoligies to those whom may read your diatribes and often non-sensical ramblings. As the one Lady said, you seem intent on trying to impress someone! Me, I just skipped you and moved to the next comment.

Many other readers understood where I was coming from and going. Apparently you frequently have no clue! Some establishments, however configurated, will always have some ruthless and useless predators operating within! To those meatheads I dedicate my comments.

I would try getting out of your house and away from your computer researches and concentrate more on what is happening NOW and offer some IMMEDIATE solutions. If we wait for all your rebuilding of County Government it will be too late. The harm will dig deeper each day as you "Brainstorm."

UPDATE: JNP has a job come January.

It looks like the Allegan Co. Prosecutor has done a complete reversal from his past statements and will in fact be hiring JNP. I bet Julie is glad they kept her chair warm for her back in Allegan. High political pressure was involved in getting Allegan's prosecutor to change his mind.

I have not confirmed if one of JNP's deputies will depart to Allegan with her, but there's some rumbling towards that direction.

Ag3,
I can appreciate your dedication to communicating to meatheads. They seem to agree with you.
Your IMMEDIATE solutions seem to be working well for you.

LOL, I have your attention apparently! Got you to start your own blog! Yes, I agree with you this time!
