According to this article, a new poll shows Sharon Renier closing in on uber-fundamentalist Tim Walberg for the race to fill Joe Schwarz' seat in Michigan's 7th Congressional District which covers Calhoun and Washtenaw Counties. The poll gives Republican Tim Walberg a 43 to 35 percent lead over Democratic Party nominee Sharon Renier. The upside for Renier, despite being down by 8 points in this poll, is that her name recognition is only at 23% with Walberg being recognized by more than twice as many voters. The poll was conducted by Chicago-based company Glengariff Group Inc. shows Renier actually holding the lead among independent voters 36 to 33 percent, with 28 percent undecided.
Walberg's poor showing and Renier's surprising strength in the traditionally GOP-held district are likely due to the bloody GOP primary with many local Republicans witholding support from Walberg as well as the national shift from the Republican Party to Democrats in the wake of numerous Republican Party blunders and scandals. While most pundits are still counting on the seat remaining in the hands of the GOP, a growing momentum in local and national polls toward Democrats may just swamp the nation and create a Congressional rout like the Republicans experienced in 1994 and the Democrats had post-Watergate. Stay tuned...

7th dist dems should be picking up pop cans and having candy drives to make the money to push Renier. What are the useless Calhoun County dems up to other than trying to get Mark Schauer reelected. Mark does not need their help, he's got plenty of cash.
In fact- where the hell is Schauer in all this? If he didn't support Renier then it says a lot that whoever he supported won the primary. Also, despite Schauer rising up the ranks in the state Dems it still seems to mean squat when it comes to the local party.
Detroit News did not endorse Walberg or Renier but maybe set history by endorsing Libertarian candidate for 7th Dist seat!!!

Wow. Talk about showing how out to lunch they are. Then again, it shows what a moonbat Walberg is that he can't even get the support of Michigan's answer to the Wall Street Journal and the Moonie (Washington) Times. That Tim Walberg is too extreme for the Detroit News means he should not be elected by the citizens of the 7th District.
my thoughts exactly. It might have been a defacto endorsement of Renier by the News. The News would hate to set a precedent by endorsing a Dem, no matter how bad or corrupt the Repug candidate is.
I heard that the right wing-nuts from Hillsdale just love Walberg.
Swartz files as write in!!! This might be exactly what will push Renier into seat. Laura Bush campaigned last week for Walberg which is proof as to how close race is.
